In this article about the woes of vegan air travel, one of the vegan travelers interviewed gave a great piece of advice: read unfamiliar ingredient labels. She said she found that many of the cookies sold in the airport on her recent trip to Peru were vegan. Good advice - I’ve noticed also that outside of the U.S., ingredient labels are often much less complicated.
My game plan for worst-case scenario airport hunger is to head to one of the gift shops and pick up a bag of nuts or trail mix – they usually have 3 or 4 servings in them, so it’s plenty to tide you over.
Tea is the new wine

You’ve certainly heard of going on a tour of a vineyard and doing the wine tasting, but how about going on a tour of a tea plantation? Tea is the 2nd most consumed beverage in the world (after water – also green tea is the most consumed of all kinds). Tea plantations in India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Kenya, and right here in the U.S. offer either vacation packages or tours and tastings. Check out the article here.
Travel Channel

From examiner.com, a well-written, polite, and civil letter to Anthony Bourdain (from the Travel channel – if it has a pulse, he’ll eat it) on behalf of vegetarians and vegans everywhere.
Also, speaking of the Travel Channel, I caught the tail end of an episode of Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern taking place in Delhi, where he visited a Sikh temple at which they serve free vegetarian food in their community. Awesome! Not so ‘bizarre’ though. Then the next episode started and I was simultaneously nauseated and horrified. I turned the TV off and tried to focus on the chappati and lentil daal from a few minutes ago.
